拍品專文

Little is known about Jean-Baptiste-Ponce Lambert, a pupil of Jean-Baptiste-Jacques Augustin, who exhibited miniatures and enamels at the Salons between 1801 and 1812. He is not known to have been a pastellist but engravings after his earlier portraits in oil, such as that of his Portrait of Jean-Baptiste Guittard (Museé de Versailles), show a very similar sense of physiognomy.

We are grateful to Neil Jeffares for suggesting the attribution and for his assistance in preparing this catalogue entry.
