1537, INSCRIBED Mo Go FOR WORKSHOP OF MAESTRO GIORGIO ANDREOLI
With a shallow well and on a very low slender foot, painted in green and a thin pale-blue and enriched in gold and ruby lustre, the centre with a quartered coat of arms flanked by a fluttering ribbon, within a blue-edged white circle and a broad band of gold lustre at the well, the border with crossed quivers flanked by fruiting husks divided by two panels with palmettes, within a gold lustre band rim, the reverse inscribed 1537 Mo Go in the centre, the border with three clusters of ruby and gold lustre foliage (restored chips to rim and footrim, glaze flaking to rim of well, minor small glaze flake to arms)

Reverse with red inventory number 78·2·7

The coat of arms appears to be related to a branch of the Chigi family.
For a dish in the Musée du Louvre with a related border, with white spaces left between the decoration, see Jeanne Giacomotti, Catalogue des majoliques des musées nationaux, Paris, 1974, pp. 214-215, no. 690, and another in New York is illustrated by Jörg Rasmussen, Robert Lehman Collection X Italian Majolica, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 1989, pp. 218, no. 136.
