ENGLISH POTTERY (Lots 301-352) Monday, 28 January 2013 at 10:00 am ENGLISH CERAMICS AND AMERICAN GLASS FROM THE WILLIAM BURTON GOODWIN COLLECTION (Lots 301-341) Sons and Daughters of Liberty A celebration of American Colonial material culture comes to the auction block in the form of The William Burton Goodwin Collection of early English saltglazed stoneware, creamware and American glass. Goodwin, a premier attorney at 1 Wall Street and a descendent of Captain David Brown (who on 19th of April in 1775 commanded the Minute Men at the Battle of North Bridge) and Roger Conant (founder of the Salem Colony in 1626), ardently added to this Colonial inspired collection in the 1920s and 30s. This definitive selection of rare Staffordshire tea and table wares, now owned by his many heirs, is being shared with the market.

The scratch-blue globular teapot, milk-jug and teabowl all incised with floral motifs; the quatrefoil teapot slip-cast with pendant flowers and key-pattern bands above graduated pecten shells on a key-pattern surround issuing oak branches and acorns
