PROPERTY REMOVED FROM FLAXLEY ABBEY, GLOUCESTERSHIRE (LOT 19-23) Flaxley Abbey in Gloucestershire was originally a 12th century Cistercian Abbey and still retains some exceptional architectural features dating from the 12th and 13th century in what is still known as the Abbot's Room and The Refectory. For almost 300 years the Crawley-Boevey Family owned the estate from 1683 until 1960 when the housed was sold to Mr and Mrs F.B. Watkins who employed Oliver Messel, the artist and designer to improve the property and gardens.

The cabinet with giltwood crest to back ledge and with a fitted interior of eight drawers around a central deep drawer and small drawer all decorated with birds, animals, figures and flowers and enclosed by a pair of doors further decorated with flowers and figures, on giltwood stand with deep pierced friezes on angled projecting legs joined by stretchers, the front frieze centred with a basket of flowers and a cartouche flanked by cherubs
72½ in. (184 cm.) high including gilt back ledge; the stand 50 in. (127 cm.) wide and 26 in. (67 cm.) deep
