Vir Singh Deo reigned as the ruler of Orchha (in present-day Madhya Pradesh) from 1605 to 1624 during Jahangir's reign. He was Jahangir's ally during the emperor's struggle against his father Akbar.

Opaque pigments heightened with gold on paper, the Raja heavily armed with a transparent jama set on a blue background with an identifying inscription in devanagari above, set inside later scrolling vine border and wide marbled paper margins, reverse with two nasta'liq quatrains, in silk covered card mount
