Early Muslim rulers adopted the style of the Sasanian drachm for their coins, but after a coinage reform in the latter part of the 7th century images were no longer featured, the weight decreased, and the coins became known as Dirhams. Many of these coins are issues of Madinat al-Salam (Baghdad), and were struck during the reign of Harun al-Rashid.
