A Song dynasty vase of related shape, but of slightly smaller size (13 in.), and with four grooved bands on the shoulder, is illustrated by He Li in Chinese Ceramics, A New Comprehensive Survey from the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, New York, 1996, p. 149, no. 227, where it is classified as Ding, and from Hebei.

The result of Oxford Authentication Ltd. thermoluminescence test no. p101t81 is consistent with the dating of this lot.
