The present miniature derives from a large-scale oil on canvas by Robert Home, painted in 1804. The Home portrait, now in the National Portrait Gallery, London (NPG 1471), depicts Arthur Wellesley, later Duke of Wellington without the Order of the Bath, which he was awarded in 1805, but received in India the following year.
