A scene from Roman history: A general receiving the surrender of another's sword

One of a series of designs for Ludovico Antonio Muratori's (1672-1750) Rerum italicum scriptores published in 28 volumes between 1723 and 1751. Tiepolo's drawings were engraved by Francesco Zucchi (1692-1764). Other drawings by Tiepolo for that commission are in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and the British Museum (see A.
