This tapestry forms part of an unusual sub-group of large leaf verdure tapestries that incorporate an architectural frame with spike-bosses or finials protruding into the main field. Superimposed over the large leaves are more delicate flowers and birds. A tapestry with similar vases incorporated into the frame was sold anonymously, Sotheby's, Monaco, 25 June 1984, lot 3239. This latter panel is described as bearing a weaver's signature and is attributed to Enghien or Grammont, two centers known to have woven large leaf verdures.
