A New Discovery of a Vast Country in America, extending above Four Thousand Miles, between New France and New Mexico. With a Description of the Great Lakes, Cataracts, Rivers, Plants, and Animals. London: M. Bentley, J. Tonson, H. Bonwick, T. Goodwin, and S. Manship, 1698. 2 volumes in one, 8º (187 x 119mm). Engraved frontispiece, 2 folding engraved maps, and 6 folding plates (Frontispiece tipped onto front blank, waterstained and restored at upper margin with small area of border in facsimile, title similarly restored with small area of border in facsimile, A5-8 in the first quire short at foremargin, occasional browning and soiling.) Later panelled calf, spine directly lettered in gilt, gilt turn-ins (joints rubbed, slight scuffing to upper cover, endpapers renewed).

SECOND ENGLISH EDITION, considered typographically superior to the first. Two issues appeared in 1698, this being termed the ‘Tonson’ issue (with the first line of the printers on the title-page ending in ‘Tonson’) and with the alterations of the page numbers on the plates.
