Gregor Leider (1590-1673)
The maker of the present cup, Gregor Leider, was born in Klagenfurt in southern Austria and is recorded as working in Augsburg from around 1624 until his death in 1673. A Catholic, he supplied liturgical silver to various religious institutions particularly in Salzburg. In addition to ecclesiastical silver he supplied secular table ornaments, such as a model of a Habsburg Emperor in a German noble collection, and that of a cockerel.
