Of architectural form, enameled en grisaille with Father Time, Fate and putti attended by an owl, monkey, cranes and other animals and insects within arabesques, with rocaille scrollwork including dragon-herm to the sides, on gadrooned ball feet

J.W. Benson was one of the foremost jewelers and clockmakers of the 19th century and had royal warrants from both Queen Victoria and the Prince of Wales. Ernst August Leuteritz was employed at Meissen from 1836-1886 as a designer and later as Director of the modeling department. He developed this type of enameled decoration in the mid-19th century in response to renewed interest in the Renaissance style.
