A CLOISONNE ENAMEL BOX AND COVER
CHINA, QING DYNASTY, QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)

拍品專文

The Qianlong emperor appears to have had a great desire for novelty and exotic products, and a great number of pieces decorated to imitate other materials in a playful attempt at 'trompe-l'oeil' was made during his reign.
Compare to a similarly decorated Qianlong turquoise-ground Chinese chess boxes and covers, in the collection of National Palace Museum, Taipei. Compare the current box with another Qianlong three-compartment cloisonne enamel scholar's box, sold in Christie's Paris, 14 December 2011, lot 207.
