Okumura Masanobu was a major artist working mainly in the period before the development of full-colour printing and he is known to have contributed to its development by conducting numerous experiments. This print is from a set of twelve (one for each of the twelve months) whereby on each print the printed black outlines have been added to with hand-colouring using a refined palette of red, earthy yellow and greyish-brown pigments.
