From October 1910 to May 2011, the grands-parents of the present owner, descending from a wealthy family of French bankers made a long journey from Paris to Moscow. They visited several countries on the way: India, Burma, Japan and China where comparatively very few Westerners travelled at the time. In all of these countries, they took fascinating photographs and purchased works of art along the way. The grand-mother of the present owner documented all of her visits, discoveries and purchases in her journal: a very interesting and amusing testimony of what a long journey was like at the dawn of the 20th century.
