This fine cast head shows the Buddha with a sublime inner tranquillity imbued with a deep spiritual feeling. It epitomizes the finest quality of Buddha images made during the Sukhothai kingdom of central Thailand during the fourteenth to fifteenth century. An ovoid face with arched eyebrows continuing in a fluent line to the nose ridge ending in a downward point characterizes this particular style. The snail-shaped hair curls and the slightly curled tips of the elongated earlobes are also typical for the Sukhothai repertoire.
