Speculum exemplorum. 1490
Speculum exemplorum. Strasbourg: [Printer of the 1483 Jordanus de Quedlinburg (Georg Husner)], 1 March 1490.

Fourth edition of moralising tales, preserving folk tales from a hitherto oral tradition. The work opens in praise of the art of printing and the dissemination of books throughout the world. Its author is now recognised as Johannes Busch (1399/1400-after 1475), member of the Devotio Moderna, instead of the earlier attribution to Aegidius Aurifaber. HC 14918*; BMC I, 139; Bod-Inc. S-267; BSB-Ink. S-506; CIBN S-346; Goff S-654; ISTC is00654000.

Chancery folio (270 x 189mm). 285 (of 286, without last blank) leaves. (Small excision in title and lower margin of second leaf repaired, occasional faint browning, small paper flaw in K3 affecting a few letters, small repair at gutter of O1.) Early 20th-century vellum-backed boards, flat spine with red leather labels. Provenance: a few early annotations (washed).
