OTTOMAN TURKEY, CIRCA 1590-1600

Tiles from the same cartoon are used to surround the mihrab in the Mesih Mehmet Pasha Mosque. This mosque, whose patron was briefly Grand Vizier under Sultan Murad III, was built in 1585.
