It is unusual to see ribbed decoration on Chinese glass from the Han dynasty. This was probably influenced by foreign glass bowls manufactured during the late Hellenistic and early Roman periods, 2nd to 1st centuries BC. For a discussion and illustration of foreign bowls of this type see C.S. Lightfoot, "Some Examples of Ancient Cast and Ribbed Bowls in Turkey", Journal of Glass Studies, vol. 35, 1993, The Corning Museum of Glass, pp. 22-38, and figs. 29-49.
