The fine chasing, excellent modeling and craftsmanship of the ormolu bases of this lot suggest that it is the product of a leading bronzier of the first half of the nineteenth century, such as Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843). A similar Chinoiserie terracotta was in the collection of Hubert de Saint-Senoch, Pavillon de Bidane, sold Sotheby's, Monaco, 6 December 1983, lot 240.
