ATTRIBUTED TO GIOVANNI BATTISTA DI MATTEO NALDINI, THE MARTYRDOM OF SAINT LAWRENCE, RED CHALK, PEN AND BROWN INK, BROWN WASH
After having been tentatively attributed to Taddeo Zuccaro and later more generally to the Florentine School, recently an attribution to the Florentine artist Naldini has been suggested. The subject was treated by many Florentine artists of the time. As noted by Nicholas Turner (op. cit., p. 64), the drawing’s composition was probably influenced by Agnolo Bronzino’s large altarpiece from 1569 in the church of San Lorenzo, Florence.
