SOUTH CAUCASUS, FIRST HALF 19TH CENTURY

This rug has a wonderfully supple handle due to its relatively fine weave and the wide and rich colour palette with the intense cochineal magenta field, characteristic of the weavings found in the Karabagh region, suggest that this was woven earlier rather than later in the 19th century.
