Louis Getz was one of the daughters of the prominent Beverly Hills couple, Milton and Estelle Getz. After emigrating from Prussia, the Getz family opened a general store catering to Northern California miners, eventually exporting goods on a global scale and producing their own products under the brand Getzbest.

Milton fell in love with Estelle, daughter of Kaspare Cohn of Kaspare Cohn Commercial Savings Bank, and became a partner in the bank after their marriage. After Cohn's death in 1916, Milton and his brother-in-law renamed the bank to the Union Bank & Trust, which became one of the largest and most successful banks in the area as the city of Hollywood expanded.

With their considerable wealth, Milton and Estelle designed a mansion in the popular Mediterranean style, which would become one of the most well-known homes in Beverly Hills. The home was subsequently owned by William Randolph Hearst and his mistress, actress Marion Davies, and later served as a film set for several pictures including The Godfather and The Bodyguard.
