The Greubel Forsey GMT Tourbillon Reference GF05 was the first wristwatch in the world to feature a world time, dual time, and a 25° inclined 24-second tourbillon within a single timepiece. Given its complexity and multiple patents, it was one of the first watches from the brand to truly put them 'on the map', and it may, in fact, be the only timepiece to combine these specific complications. With production beginning in 2011, only 100 examples of Reference GF05 were manufactured over its 11-year run.
Featuring the brand's distinct asymmetrical case with two lower protrusions, these elements accentuate the remarkable 24-second tourbillon, which is tilted at 25° to offer greater resistance to gravitational forces. The left-side protrusion houses a superb three-dimensional rotating world time display, with a second display on the reverse to account for daylight saving time or solar time. The watch also includes a 12-hour dual time display and a power reserve indicator with a maximum of 72 hours. This stately timepiece offers an excellent opportunity to acquire an important watch from a highly respected independent manufacturer.
Greubel Forsey
Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey have been working together for over 20 years, united by a shared passion for technical creativity and a relentless pursuit of perfection. The two watchmakers are renowned for their exceptional and avant-garde horology, blending highly complicated mechanical functions with boldly innovative styling concepts.
The duo became legends in the world of modern independent watchmaking when they began developing complex movements for Renaud & Papi in 1992. In 1999, Greubel and Forsey branched out on their own, establishing themselves as independent creators under CompliTime Greubel in La Neuveville and Bureau d’Étude et Prototype in Le Locle, respectively. From that point forward, they focused on designing a new generation of tourbillons specifically engineered to enhance the timekeeping precision of mechanical watches.
