Eugène Chaper (1827–1890) was a prominent French politician and military engineer. In 1862, he became a member of the Académie Delphinale, serving as its president from 1879. A passionate bibliophile, Chaper published numerous works on the subject and maintained an extensive library at his Château d’Eybens. He was the brother of zoologist and paleontologist Maurice Chaper, and the cousin of Jean Casimir-Perier, President of the French Republic.
