The present table has a storied provenance, having been in two prominent American collections. Colonel Lee Caraway Bizzell was born in 1893 in Strayhorn, Mississippi, and attended Mississippi State University and the University of Chattanooga. After graduation, he enlisted in the army and was a veteran of both World Wars. He later served in India under General Joseph Stilwell. He retired from the Army in 1951 after 37 years of service and moved to Gloucester, Virginia, where he opened an antiques business specializing in Persian rugs and porcelain. He penned a memoir titled A Travelogue To Life, By Incidents and Accidents in 1991 and passed away in 1994 at age 100. He was interred at Arlington National Cemetery.

Judge John E. DeHardit attended Hampden Sydney College and graduated from the University of Virgina Law School in 1947. He first practiced law at West Point, and then in Gloucester, Virginia. In 1962, he was appointed Circuit Court Judge of the Ninth Judicial Circuit of Virginia and retired in 1989 after having served more than three decades on the bench. He passed away at his Gloucester home, Wareloch, in 2006.
