Burl panels were often incorporated into furniture to provide a decorative element, and the aesthetic created a striking contrast between the textured graining of burl and the amber tones of huanghuali. A huanghuali side table with shelf, of smaller proportions, was sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, A Connoisseur’s Studio – The Cissy and Robert Tang Collection of Classical Chinese Furniture, 30 May 2023, lot 2716. See, also, a similar small recessed-leg side table from the Marie Theresa L. Virata Collection, sold at Christie’s New York, 16 March 2017, lot 668.
