There is no specific mention of these models in the work reports of Kändler or his sculptor colleagues. A pair of similar (unmounted) models are illustrated by Gerhard Röbbig, Kabinettstücke, Amira-Palais, Munich, October-November 2008 Exhibition Catalogue, Munich, 2008, p. 130. The present pair also relates to the earlier pair of parakeets in the Sheafer Collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, object no. 1974.356.341, as well as a pair of ‘Indian Parakeets’ sold Christie’s, New York, 3 June 2004, lot 828.
