The present reference 6090 is an excellent example of the so-called 'Bombé' collection, which gets its name from the French word for 'domed' and refers to the characteristic curvature of its sculpted lugs. A very rare and desirable example, it has a striking two-tone champagne and galvanic black dial with gilt printing, an uncommon arrangement that produces an especially pleasing contrast.
Although Rolex used a variety of dial manufacturers in the 1950s, those supplied by Stern Frères remain the most sought-after. Each dial was individually stamped with a number code and Stern Frères star symbol. The back of the dial is signed 103★2604, with the 103 denoting Rolex, the star for Stern Frères, and 2604 for the order number.
The watch is further equipped with a 'Super Oyster' winding crown, a non-screw-down waterproof system designed to ensure water resistance without the need for threading onto the case tube. Produced only briefly in the early 1950s, this feature further contributes to the model’s rarity. The exterior of the caseback is engraved with the initials of the original owner, Kurt Kahn. The present timepiece, which has been in the same family for more than 70 years, offers a unique chance to purchase a well-preserved example with continuous ownership.

The history of the present timepiece is closely tied to that of its original owner, Kurt Kahn. In 1938, following the events of Kristallnacht, Kahn, then aged 28, was interned in Dachau. After being released and then forced into exile from Germany, he and his parents moved to Melbourne, Australia, with limited financial means.
Kahn made a living in Australia from humble beginnings, working in hospitality and starting a small family-run food company. This business eventually developed into Harvest Foods, a well-known brand in the Australian market and a provider of preserved foods during World War II.
In 1953, Kahn set off for a world tour that included a visit to Israel, time spent in London during the Coronation year, and a return to Europe, where he acquired the present Rolex reference 6090. The watch subsequently accompanied him on further travels, including a journey to New York aboard the Queen Elizabeth, before returning with him to Australia.
