SARAH MELLON: AN AMERICAN HEIRESS AND PHILANTHROPIST
Sarah Mellon (1903 - 1965) was an American heiress and philanthropist from Pittsburgh’s prominent Mellon family.
The daughter of banker Richard B. Mellon, she grew up within one of the country’s most influential industrial and financial dynasties. In 1927, she married industrialist Alan Magee Scaife in a lavish society wedding in Pittsburgh, attended by prominent members of American high society and widely reported in the press.
Throughout her life, Mellon supported the arts, healthcare, education, and scientific research, contributing to numerous cultural and charitable institutions.
