Tan half morocco, title and date in gilt on spine, top edges gilt, others uncut, original wrappers preserved (extremities slightly rubbed).
FIRST EDITION WITH A FINE INSCRIPTION BY THE AUTHOR 'A Monsieur le Docteur Sollier Homage de profonde et respectueuse reconnaissance Marcel Proust'. Published in 1894 by the young Proust, the Plaisirs et les jours, a collection of prose and poetry in a somewhat decadent style. Together with his constant appearances at Madeleine Lemaire's salon with his friend Reynaldo Hahn, it gained him a reputation as a flaneur which only disappeared after the publication of the first volumes of A la recherche.
