I first took note of Will Fisher and his incredible eye when I saw his apartment photographed in the World of Interiors 2001. I was intrigued by someone whose aesthetic was so unbelievably English, with an eye for patina and detail but that was put together in a clean and fresh way, almost James Bond-like (Sean Connery's Bond, that is). Later when I met Will, when he became a full-fledged dealer, I realised he was less of a James Bond character and more of a Dickens one. He is very eccentric in a quirky English way, with an extraordinary sense of adventure - prepared to go to the ends of the earth to find the worlds most interesting chimney pieces, lighting and furniture. Will and Charlotte would eventually start Jamb, the go-to source for any designer and architect in the world who loves English country house taste with a masculine twist - the beauty of wood, the sheen of metal and the luxury of incredibly well detailed and executed forms. Will is an extraordinary and eccentric person. Always with an interesting twist of phrase, hes a quintessentially London character. My first stop when I get off the plane in London is to rush to Will and Charlottes shop for a generally bad cup of tea and to see the things that they have found at country sales, from dealers far and wide, and the beautiful pieces that they have made which have the character and quality of antique items. The things I buy from Jamb always add an interesting sense of humour that is still grounded in the timeless quality that I love about English design. When it became time for me to find a place to sell my Jasper fabrics, I couldnt think of a better home than Will and Charlottes shop. The time and attention to detail which I put into my fabrics means that they coexist beautifully with Will and Charlottes carefully selected objects. Im excited that they are creating a new shop and a new chapter, however, I still look forward to the bad tea, witticisms and humour after a long transcontinental flight. Michael Smith Over the years I have had the good fortune to have owned numerous English Country Houses. My passion for them has spawned long relationships with many leading antique dealers. Christopher Gibbs remains the doyen of the Country House tradition and it was during a trip to visit him 6 years ago that I first accidentally met Will Fisher in his gallery. Unbeknownst to me Christopher had relinquished his lease to the next generation of antique dealing obsessives. The gallery, concealed from the main road, gave no indication of the jewels that lay behind the opaque doors. When entering I was struck by a true sense of faded grandeur. Monumental sculpture was mixed with furniture, chimneypieces and relics gathered from around the globe. I had then just acquired Ven House in Dorset, a late 17th century jewel that provided the perfect backdrop for many of the acquisitions I went on to make from Will. Dolly (as Will is affectionately known by me) and I have become firm and close friends through our mutual passion for the Country House aesthetic. This auction represents a fantastic opportunity to purchase extraordinary objects, from a 9 foot giraffe to a George I walnut bookcase. Will has a great eye and a truly unique style which I am sure will combine to make this sale a resounding success! Jasper Conran
