INDENTSecond Lieutenant Robert Edward Charles Groome of Brockenhurst, Hants, was commissioned in January 1914 from Harrow O.T.C.; attached to 65th Battery R.F.A., he proceeded to the Front 17 August 1914. He fought through the retreat from Mons and the battles of the Marne and the Aisne. Returning along the road from Ypres to Neauve Eglise 3 March 1915, in company with a Bombadier, after repairing a forward observation telephone wire, a shell burst between them severely wounding both men in the legs. They were taken to a hospital in Poperinghe but Lieutenant Groome died from his wounds the following day
