A CARVED CAMEO AGATE SNUFF BOTTLE
OFFICIAL SCHOOL, 1750-1850
The well-hollowed bottle is finely carved on one side, utilizing the dark brown markings, with a hawk perched on a gnarled pine branch observing a small sparrow in flight. The reverse is similarly carved with a hawk alertly perched on a pine tree beneath a cloud.
2 in. (5 cm.) high, rose quartz stopper
Provenance
John Paul Rappolt (1913-2003), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and thence by descent to the present owner.
