Edo Period (19th Century), with signature Yoyusai saku
Rectangular, designed on one side in gold, red and silver hiramaki-e and takamaki-e, inlaid aogai, kimpun and gold foil on a kimpun-dusted ground with two men in Portuguese dress walking with a nun, one figure carrying a miniature rock in a basin and one walking a dog, rendered in silver lacquer, the inro designed on the opposite side with a Japanese clock, the twelve animals of the Zodiac in gold, brown and silver lacquer surrounding an inlaid dial of metal encased in glass, the names of the hours (dog, monkey, etc.) and the corresponding hour number gilt, the clock hand also metal, the interior case nashiji
