This figure has been variously identified as Harlequin, Scaramouche and Beltrame, although Meredith Chilton considers the character of Capitano more likely. For the example in the Arnhold Collection, see Maureen Cassidy-Geiger, Arnhold Collection of Meissen Porcelain 1710-50 (London, 2008), no. 278, where she suggests that the model may have been derived from etchings by Salvator Rosa.
