Lot Essay

This bust, together with a further nine also found in the basements at Althorp and now in the Artist's Corridor at Althorp, may well be amongst the 12 Marble Busts of the Ceasars Heads' recorded in the Billiard Room and Library S.W. Wing in the 1746 Althorp Inventory by Benjamin Goodison (MSS, British Library, Add. 78026, Althorp Papers).
