With Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin and Attestation, both dated 11 August 2007, original fitted Madagascan ebony presentation box, the glass window with a silkscreen rendition of the Patek Philippe building, a stainless steel frame also engraved "1839 - 1892 - 2006" and outer packaging. Furthermore delivered with the "1839 - 1892 - 2006" booklets on the history of the building, both commemorative references 5565 and 5105 as well as an example of the exhibition catalogue of Tableaux du Léman, Le Lac, Ses Rives, Ses Bateaux. To accentuate the significance of the inauguration, an exhibition entitled "Tableaux du Léman" took place from 20 November 2006 to 3 February 2007, presenting some 160 paintings of Lake of Geneva landscapes dating from 1880 to 1950. The selection reflected the personal favourites of Mr. Philippe Stern, President of Patek Philippe, and was on display on the third and fourth floors of the building.
Reference 5565 was made in a strictly limited series of only 300 examples to commemorate the reopening of Patek Philippe's prestigious Salons in Geneva's Rue du Rhône in 2006. The models were exclusively available in the Geneva Salons.
Inspired by Patek Philippe's celebrated reference 565 from 1938 (see lot 59 in this auction), reference 5565 features a stainless steel case and the highly attractive two-tone silvered dial. Reminiscent of the dials from the period, it combines a vertical satin finish centre combined with applied black nickel-plated gold Arabic and baton numerals. Its movement is the famous calibre 215 PS, developed in the early 1970s and much appreciated by collectors. The design of the sleek case is derived from the famous reference 565, the screw back is decorated with an engraving of Patek Philippe's building on Rue du Rhône and the inscription "1839 - 1892 - 2006", commemorating three key dates in the firm's history:
1839: foundation of the watchmaking company Patek, Czapek & Cie at Quai des Bergues 29, Geneva
1892: following the move to Rue du Rhône in 1853, renovation and modernizing of the building under the direction of the celebrated architect Jacques-Elisée Goss
2006: restoration of the historical premises and inauguration of the newly renovated Salons Patek Philippe at Rue du Rhône 41
