Meriden Britannia Company, Meriden, circa 1890
Circular, on four pierced feet, the base with a continuous scene of boats in a harbor and applied with anchors, rudders and laurel wreaths, the cup with harbor scene and two leaf-clad rosette handles, the domed cover surmounted by a female figure and two cartouches, one depicting sailing boats, the other engraved WON BY THE YACHT JOHN E. MEHRER. CAPT. SAMUEL GALE AT ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. SEPT. 27. 1890, apparently unmarked

This trophy cup can be firmly attributed to the Meriden Britannia Company, as it appears in their published catalogue of 1886-87, as "No. 2000 YACHT CUP." The price was $137.50.
