Sale Overview

Christie’s Antiquities sale features an impressive selection of works from across the ancient Mediterranean and Near East. The objects represent ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Egyptian and Near Eastern cultures and range in date from the 3rd millennium B.C. to the 7th century A.D.

The sale is led by a large Egyptian Bronze Lion-Headed Goddess from the Estate of Joan R. Linclau, formerly in the collection of the antiquarian M.A. Mansoor (1881-1968). Other highlights include a Roman Marble Herm Portrait of the Philosopher Theophrastos, a series of Assyrian reliefs from the Estate of Dr. Vallo Benjamin, and an Attic Red-Figured Column-Krater depicting the abduction of Oreithyia by Boreas.

Christie’s is also delighted to present the Collection of Dina and Raphael Recanati, featuring a diverse group of Egyptian and Eastern Mediterranean works collected by the noted philanthropists in the mid-20th century. The sale will also include Part II of Ancient Glass from the Collection of Jack and Jane Weprin.
