Christie’s Classic Week concluded on a high note in New York, totaling $42 million across six sales.

The auctions were led by two Old Masters sales, with Old Master & British Drawings achieving $2,116,044, and the Old Masters and Old Master Paintings and Sculpture: Part II sales totaling $28,137,742. Among the most exciting lots was Jacopo Ligozzi’s Head of a Woman in Profile, which fetched $504,000.

Global Treasury: The Life and Collection of Selim & Mary Zilkha auction also drew collectors’ interest, bringing in $6,626,592. Giuseppe Piamontini’s Jupiter and Juno sold for $1,071,000 against a low estimate of $200,000, while the Nero and Augustus Aldobrandini Tazza was sold privately prior to the auction.

Antiquities remain a cornerstone of the sales, reaching $2,707,704, led by A Pair of Attic Gold Earrings that hit $151,200 against a low estimate of $10,000. Demonstrating the enduring appeal of exquisite decorative objects, the Important Classic and Decorative Art sale achieved $2,528,820, with an Imperial Jeweled and Enamel Gold-mounted Hardstone Study of Bearberry by Fabergé selling for $529,200.

The auctions saw competitive bidding from around the globe, with a significant number of new bidders — including Millennials — who are now entering the Classics market with enthusiasm.
