Christie’s American Art department is thrilled to present its annual sale of 19th-century American and Western Art on 23 January during the special 250th anniversary edition of Americana Week. This curated auction of American paintings, works on paper and sculpture is led by Sanford Robinson Gifford’s stunning masterwork Sunset Over the Palisades on the Hudson, headlining an extraordinary group of works from Mr. and Mrs. John D. Rockefeller 3rd, from the collection of Sandra Ferry Rockefeller.

Works by important artists such as genre master Eastman Johnson and the rare Robert S. Duncanson feature alongside leading figures of the Hudson River School, from Jasper Francis Cropsey to John Frederick Kensett and more.

In addition to the above, the auction includes a large and diverse offering of lots offered without reserve.
