Event Date7 June 2012 | Live auction 2566
On June 7 Christie’s will present another in its series of 500 YEARS/European Decorative Arts auctions, including Oriental Carpets. Strong in 18th century French furniture, the sale features a suite from the Metropolitan Museum of Art once owned by banker philanthropist Robert Lehman as well as a Riesener bureau plat and several beautiful marquetry commodes. Ceramics include 18th and 19th century Sevres and a section of early furniture and sculpture is accompanied by a selection of maiolica. Carpets range from room-sized Persian examples to smaller tribal pieces and rugs from Morocco and China, and there is an intriguing collection of Imperial and Royal wall-mounted stag antler trophies.
