This season’s sale of Art of the Islamic and Indian Worlds presents a select group of rare and beautiful works of art and works on paper from across the Islamic and Indian Worlds. Highlights include glittering enameled and jeweled hilts from Muhgal India, important Qur’an manuscripts, the Arab world’s earliest known firearm and a gem-set Ming pencase made for the Ottoman market. The first section of the sale comprises A Private Collection Donated to Benefit the University of Oxford - the fourth and final installment of a sale which is realizing the vision of an extremely generous collector. The section includes paintings and manuscripts from Iran, Turkey and India, with the primary focus being on calligraphy and featuring works by a number of the most important Safavid scribes.
