Arts Décoratifs du XXe Siècle et Design

Arts Décoratifs du XXe Siècle et Design

Sale Overview

The sale offers a selection of works by Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann and Jean Dunand, including a lacquer sofa by the latter with exceptional provenance – installed in the designer’s apartment, it has remained within the family collection until now – and a set of seven works commissioned by the architect Salah Halwani from Jean Royère for his flat in Beirut. This group bears witness to the importance of the Lebanese city in the decorator’s career; having settled in Beirut in 1947, Jean Royère  quickly became the most prominent designer in the city, and he was to receive many orders from clients in the Middle East.

These pieces are complemented by the pure lines of a selection of five bronzes by François Pompon, one of them acquired directly from the artist in 1929 by Laure Delvolvé, granddaughter of the painter Eugène Carrière. Finally a few works by the Lalannes, including an impressive 15-light structure végétale chandelier that was commissioned directly from Claude Lalanne in 2010, an imposing bookcase by Prouvé and an installation by the Bouroullec brothers complete the sale.
