Couvrant cinq siècles d’art européen, la vente Maîtres Anciens : Tableaux, Sculptures comprend un riche éventail d’œuvres couvrant différentes thématiques.

Les œuvres phares de la vente sont un important triptyque d’Adriaen Isenbrandt, présenté pour la première fois aux enchères, et la redécouverte d’un Porte-Étendard de Cornelis van Haarlem qui vient de la collection du célèbre sculpteur Carlo Marochetti. Ces tableaux impressionnants seront proposés aux côtés de l’une des premières natures mortes de la femme peintre Louyse Moillon, exécutée quand elle n’avait que 19 ans, une version du Payement de la dîme par Pierre Brueghel le Jeune et deux œuvres qui viennent directe de la famille du grand peintre de la Paris du fin de siècle, René Rousseau-Decelle. La sculpture est représentée, entre autres, par une monumentale tête de Pluton, attribué au sculpteur des statues de Versailles, François Girardon et le marbre, Le Chant par la resplendissante tragédienne, Sarah Bernhardt.

Spanning five centuries of European art, Old Masters: Paintings, Sculptures includes a rich array of works covering a variety of different themes.

The highlights of the sale are an important triptych by Adriaen Isenbrandt, offered for the first time at auction, and a rediscovered Standard-Bearer by Cornelis van Haarlem from the collection of the famous sculptor Carlo Marochetti. These impressive paintings will be offered alongside one of the first still lifes by female painter Louyse Moillon, executed when she was just 19, a version of The Payment of the Tithes by Pieter Brueghel the Younger and two works coming directly from the family of the great painter of fin-de-siècle Paris, René Rousseau-Decelle. Sculpture is represented, amongst other things, by a monumental Head of Pluto, attributed to the sculptor of Versailles’s statues, François Girardon, and a marble entitled Le Chant by the eternally glamorous Sarah Bernhardt.

Olivia has worked at Christie’s since 2017, joining the Old Master Paintings Department in 2018 first as cataloguer and subsequently as specialist. She is now responsible for heading up the department’s biannual live sales in Paris. In addition to this, she is an auctioneer and charity auctioneer. Prior to joining Christie's, she was a Fellow in the Prints and Drawings Department at the British Museum. She speaks English, French and German, and has a specific interest in art of the British, French and Italian Schools.

Bérénice Verdier

Associate Specialist | Old Masters

Having built experience with French art experts, local galleries and auction houses (Cabinet de Dessins Anciens de Bayser, Artcurial, Galerie Eric Coatalem), Bérénice worked for two years at Sotheby’s Paris in the Old Master Paintings and Drawings department back to 2015-2017. There she was involved in the Orléans sale, including the last remaining works of art from the family descent of the last King of France. She then joined René Millet Expertise for more than a year where she was also taking care of appraisal research at Hôtel Drouot and in direct contact with auction houses across France. She started at Christie’s Paris in November 2018, growing as an associate Specialist in Old Master and 19th Century Paintings. Her strong knowledge in the French market is a great asset to keep on developing the biannual OMP online sale she is the head of.

In 2021 she was the co-head of the first sale at Christie's dedicated to female artists, which spanned the period from the Renaissance to the 21st Century.

Alexandre Mordret-Isambert

Specialist | Early European Sculpture & Works of Art

Alexandre Mordret-Isambert joined Christie's Paris in 2021 as an associate specialist in early European sculpture (medieval, Renaissance, baroque, neoclassical and 19th century). Alexandre is a graduate of the Université Panthéon-Assas, the École Pratique des Hautes Études-Sorbonne and the École du Louvre. After several years of experience in institutions such as the Louvre, the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris and the French Mobilier National, Alexandre began working for international auction houses. Subsequently, he worked as a specialist for an expertise company dealing in sculpture and art objects from the Middle Ages to the 18th century.

Alexandre is still a teacher in Sculpture and Decorative Arts at the École du Louvre. Alexandre also assists a number of important international collectors in building their collections.
