---

Jean Paul Barbier-Mueller's poetic library is the result of a lifetime of scholarly passion for sixteenth‑century French poetry: Ronsard, du Bellay, Baïf and the fellow poets of the Pléiade, as well as many other voices less familiar to the public. This comprehensive, carefully gathered library, has long been admired, along with the remarkable research and bibliographical work undertaken by the collector himself.

This fourth sale is the final auction dedicated to this library. Among the illustrious provenances are a number of copies from royal collections, such as La Galliade by Le Fèvre de la Boderie or the Poemata by Scévole de Sainte‑Marthe offered to Henri III, as well as a copy of Les premières Œuvres by Philippe Desportes, bearing the arms of Louis XIV. Other treasures will also be featured, including the magnificent copy of the Œuvres of the female poet Louise Labé, in a lined binding and formerly in the library of Charles Nodier, or the precious first collective edition (1560) of Ronsard’s Œuvres. The library is further enriched by items of exceptional rarity, such as an autograph letter signed by Ronsard, or the only known surviving copy of the first part of the original edition of the anthology La Muse Folastre.
