Maîtres Anciens : Peintures - Sculptures

Maîtres Anciens : Peintures - Sculptures

Sale Overview

---

Covering five centuries of European art, the sale Old Masters: Paintings - Sculptures features a rich selection of works spanning a variety of themes.

The highlights of the sale are an important Payment of the Tithe by Pieter Brueghel the Younger, as well as a work on copper of the Calvary by his brother, Jan Brueghel the Elder; both appearing at auction for the first time in forty years.

These impressive paintings will be offered alongside the rediscovery of a Bathsheba Bathing by Jan Massys, a beautiful Mary Magdaleneby the Master of the Female Half-Lengths, and a group of vedute by Pietro Belotti depicting various European cities, which has remained in the same private collection since it was acquired during the artist’s lifetime.

Sculpture is represented, among other works, by a rare early 15th‑century marble Mourner, and an ivory leaf whose counterpart is preserved at Ranger’s House in London.
