Exceptional Handbags & Accessories

Exceptional Handbags & Accessories

Sale Overview

Christie’s is proud to return to Paris with its first live Handbags auction since 2022 — a tightly curated selection of 16 exceptional pieces that celebrate rarity, craftsmanship, and cultural resonance.

At the heart of the sale lies a true icon: the Haut à Courroies 50 in Black Fjord Leather, once owned by Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg. A personal favourite of the French muse, this historic model — originally conceived for equestrian use — directly inspired the creation of the Birkin bag. Frequently seen in the arms of the legendary couple throughout the 1970s, it now stands as a symbol of timeless style and storied provenance.

Also featured is a Black Birkin 35, originally sold by Jane Birkin for charity and later signed by the actress before being delivered to the buyer — who now offers it for sale. This exceptional provenance adds a deeply personal and historic dimension to the piece.

Hermès collectors will be delighted by the presence of a Vache Naturelle Rocking Horse Kelly, a sculptural and whimsical design from 2000, as well as a 2025 Quelle Idole, and a series of contemporary masterpieces including the Faubourg Rainy Days, Bouclerie Moderne Birkin 20, and the spectacular Faubourg Tropical Birkin 35. From diamond hardware to custom colour combinations — and the iconic So Black collection — each lot has been selected for its uniqueness, provenance, and desirability.

Additionally, the sale includes a rare Red Vuittonite Canvas Trunk from the 1920s — a striking testament to Louis Vuitton’s heritage of travel and innovation.

This landmark sale invites collectors, connoisseurs, and fashion enthusiasts to rediscover the magic of Paris through the lens of the world’s most iconic handbags.
